Project Aim:

This project will support 5-10 CALD (Culturally and linguistically diverse) women (of all ages) towards obtaining their driver licence by providing volunteer driving mentor support to get their required hours and confidence, and pay for funded professional driving lessons by local driving schools if required.

Why:

  • Having a driver’s licence will improve their employment options and social accessibility for themselves and their children (for those who have them).
  • The outcomes of this project will empower the women to be self-reliant. Public transport does not also always operate during in the hours or locations of available work for the women, and having a licence will enable them to broaden their employment opportunities.
  • Many of the women currently rely on public transport and/or community members to attend appointments, take children to school, attend English classes at TAFE, run general errands and social activities. This is more difficult with larger families, sometimes up to 8 children.

Eligibility:

  • Female
  • Refugee or CALD background
  • Located in the Albury / Wodonga area
