Nusa Penida Environmental Education Project

Project Aim:

In Nusa Penida, Bali, the only drinking water students have access to, is in single-use plastic bottles purchased from their canteen. Together, we are changing that!

The SMAN 1 Senior Secondary in Ped, Nusa Penida, school principal, Ketut, agreed to ban plastic bottles if we could provide all 500 students with reusable drink bottles. We achieved this goal in January 2026, thanks to the amazing generosity of local businesses, friends, family and Hive Rotary Club members who supported our fundraiser "Party with a Purpose".

In February 2026, Hive member and project manager Sharon Jacobson visited SMAN1 school Nusa Penida to see our drink bottles in action!

We hope to continue supporting the school and the community with:

  • Provision of an additional 200 drink bottles for new students commencing in July each year.
  • Funding assistance for the school's "Green School" program.
  • Building an Environment Education Centre from Eco Blocks (made of recycled plastic) at the school for school and community use.

Watch this space to see how you can help this little school educate the student and future custodians of Nusa Penida, and lead the way for "Green Schools" in Bali!
